Review of
The SAMSUNG PS63P76FDX/XEU

Wow!!
What can I say 63 inches. This Samsung beast measures up at an
enormous 108 x 152 x 423 cm. the size speaks for itself. And the
other specifications are quite remarkable also but with some stores
asking £5,000, for this beast. Is it worth it? Please read
on to find out more.
First of all let's cover the
basics. As you would expect in a TV of this price. It has a
digital tuner with all the free view channels. It has an S-video
connection, a component video connection, AV input, no less than 3 HDMI
connections, DVI connection and is each HDCP enabled for watching
high-definition TV broadcasts. In case you're wondering, HDCP is an
acronym for high definition Copyright protection. It is a chip
that descrambles a high-definition broadcast. There is a useful
headphone socket, programme timer, a sleep timer, a Child Lock,
teletext and fast text. And Breathe.
Anyway, that's got the basics out the way, how good is the SAMSUNG PS63P76FDX/XEU? Just listen to this specification list.
1080 HD compatible. A massive 1920 by 1080 pixel
resolution. The stonking 15,000:1 contrast ratio. And not
to be let down by the brightness. A superb 1000 CD/M2. And
for me, the absolute best thing about the picture on this TV is that
Samsung have spared us any digital picture enhancement
technology. Surely this is an is an implied admittance that all
such technologies are a waste of time and energy. Why else the
top manufacturer not putting any such technology in what is its highest
specification television ever. Thank you, Samsung I feel
vindicated for all my previous comments. And thank you Samsung at
last concentrating on what really matters in a TV. The actual
components and leaving out what doesn't matter.
So in a nutshell, the picture on this TV is literally unbeatable. 63 inches of
ultimate high quality, high-definition glory to be had in this
beauty. I can't stress enough, this is possibly the best picture
that can be purchased on the high street.
This TV can also be
used as a computer monitor at WXGA resolution. This is the same
as you would find in a top of the range laptop, added to that is that
it will be interpolated to sit on a 63 inch display, so this set will
give remarkable performance and clarity for PC use. Perfect for
big company presentations or comfortable PC working from the armchair
at home. If you have a Playstation 3 or an Xbox 360 and you want
the ultimate of screen for your gaming experience the SAMSUNG
PS63P76FDX/XEU is for you.
The sound is as good as you can
expect built into a TV. This TV has 30 W RMS output and the
SRS-XT, sound system. Having said that of course, although that's
about as good you should get built into a television with a few
exceptions. You can't really do 63 inch of high-definition proper
justice without getting a separate sound system. So if you are
thinking of buying this TV add at least £250 onto your estimated
price to make sure you do it justice.
the looks of this TV are
good. Samsung has added a slight shiny sheen to their regular
matt finish and I am pleased that they have. I think that had a
regular plain black finish been produced on this monster it would have
been a shame. The desktop stand is neater and more compact than
on most Samsung's before it. But really something of this size
and quality should be wall mounted for the best experience.
So
in summary, the SAMSUNG PS63P76FDX/XEU really is superb. 63
inches of the highest quality picture great sound, but to do it proper
justice an upgrade would be required, and it has all the features you
would expect built in.
If you buy a screen like this it would be a waste not to calibrate and protect it.
My final two points are possibly the most important. In Samsung's favour, they have left out this spurious, ambiguous digital image enhancement technologies.
Well done, three cheers to Samsung. On the downside this TV is
about £5,000. If you are in a financial position as not to worry
about this sum of money and want amongst the best that is available
today, then go and buy this baby. If however you are after value
for money. You could save half that price tag, and just lose
around 10 inches. You decide.
